FTB on Mac
Fixed Solution
Problem 1: Couldn't download the Modpack
Feed The Beast
Feed The Beast 1.8.9 Packs 1.7.10 Packs. Tags: Kitchen Sink, Open World. The pack for all people. Infinity is the general all-purpose pack from the FTB team that is designed for solo play as well as small and medium population servers. Feed The Beast Launcher is a free launcher program designed to work alongside Feed the Beast. So, if you are a fan of the Feed the Beast game, then this is something that you may well find useful.
The solution to this problem was pretty easy. The launcher must have downloaded incorrectly the first time, so simply redownloading it fixed this problem.
- If you're a Mac or Linux user click the the app or jar links The ATLauncher will be saved to your computers download folder Move the download to a new folder called 'ATLauncher' do not run the launcher from your desktop or download folder.
- My FTB launcher worked fine before I updated java, now it gives me a JRELoardError. Seems backwards. OSX 10.10.3 java 8, updated java today.
- Post Server Ads and any Crashes/Issues to the correct sub-reddit. It keeps a copy of every mod it downloads so that if you later re-install the pack or install a different pack that uses the same mod then it doesn't have to download it again. This isn't a Mac or Linux compatible cursevoice client. This is just a small program.
Problem 2: Launcher crashes when loading FML
This problem took a little more research. /u/flapper501 helped quite a bit, but a different code was needed. I got the code I used from [this] (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1596841-how-to-fix-crashing-with-feed-the-beast-on-mac/) minecraft forum page.
Basically, what needs to be done is:
- Create a folder named 'Feed the Beast' on the Desktop (Spelling and Capitalization matter)
- Place 'FTB_Launcher.jar' in that folder.
- Open the application 'Terminal' (accessible via the app screen), and paste this code in it:cd ~/Desktop/Feed the Beast/ export JAVA_HOME=/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6/Home java -jar FTB_Launcher.jar
- Press enter. This should cause the launcher to open up and you can successfully run the modpack.
I just recently got a new computer (Macbook Pro 15'), and I've been trying some games on it. I just recently got off a Terraria kick, and to play that, I needed a Mac Wrapper for it.
Now, I'm trying to play FTB, but the packs won't download. I got the .jar launcher from the Feed the Beast site, but when I try launching a modpack, it will get stuck with the 'Downloading' part.
I looked on the subreddit a little bit, and saw that Minecraft requires Java 6, not the Java 7 that comes standard with Macs. I also read that if Vanilla Minecraft runs, then you have Java 6. So I double checked, and Vanilla runs fine, the problem is that FTB starts with Java 7 (I believe. I might be completely wrong.).
I tried using a program I found here, which is supposed to start FTB with Java 6 or something along those lines without me having to manually go into the FTB files and edit it. This didn't work, the program got stuck at the 'Downloading' screen again. The downloading didn't even start, it just stayed there for a few minutes, then I had to force shut it down.
So, my question is: Does anyone on /r/feedthebeast have experience working with FTB and Macs? I'm running the latest OSX. Keep in mind, Java might not even be the problem. I have basically no idea what is going on.
Thanks in advanced!

Installing SkyFactory 3
Hey everyone,
So after trying this for about 3 hours now, I'm lost. Many of the old tutorials on installing SkyFactory point to the FTB Launcher, which is no longer available, so, I'll use Twitch app instead I guess.
Never used the Twitch app before, but seems to be okay to use. However, I get repeated errors when installing SkyFactory 3, different each time (Including 'Addon instance has no full path' and something like 'Object reference not set').

Soooo is there any way to install it without the Twitch app? I mean, I installed another modpack using Twitch – 'Invasion', but it was missing more than 4 dependencies (which I downloaded, but gave up after the fourth missing one). So I've had a very bad and frustrating experience with this over the last few hours. Even tried downloading SkyFactory separately and just installing it myself, but the download for it on Curse only comes with like 3 mods, where are the rest?
Am I crazy or am I just doing this all wrong? Shouldn't Twitch just install it for me?
Cheers FTB.
P.S. I'm on Mac, I'm running Minecraft 1.12.1 daily with many mods installed, just wanted to give SkyFactory a go!
Edit: Making things clearer.
